Women in Tech is a global organisation that champions inclusion, diversity and equity in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics). Its mission is to empower 5 million women worldwide by 2030. The Sri Lanka Chapter officially launched in November 2023, under the theme “Learners to Leaders – Women’s Journey in Tech,” marking a significant milestone in the country’s tech ecosystem.
Since its global inception in 2018, Women in Tech has grown into one of the foremost networks for empowering women in STEAM. The Sri Lanka Chapter rapidly established itself via thought leadership, panel discussions, and building local membership. It joined a network of over 48 countries globally, comprising over 200,000 members by late 2023. Key early successes include raising visibility of gender gaps in tech education, facilitating conversations about mentorship and work‑life balance, and building industry, policy and academic alliances.
▪️ Sanali Kaushalya — Country Director / Chapter Ambassador
▪️ Sheron Kitchilan — Community Manager
▪️ Dinusha Geethanjali — Marketing Manager
▪️ Shanika Madushani — Partnerships Manager
▪️ Priyanka Chandrakanthan — Executive Partnerships
The chapter has also renewed its strategic communications partnership with Mark and Comm Ltd, a PR agency in Colombo, to strengthen its outreach and advocacy efforts.
With this newly‑appointed Advisory Board, Women in Tech Sri Lanka is not just expanding its network, but deepening its capacity. The board brings together expertise across domains critical for sustainable change: innovation, biotechnology, education, digital strategy, and leadership. This means more tailored mentorship, stronger policies, and more opportunities for women in tech and entrepreneurship.
As the Sri Lanka Chapter scales up, some of its priorities will include enhancing access to tech education for girls and women, building mentorship networks, influencing policy to support female technopreneurs, creating platforms for women‑led startups, and addressing systemic barriers such as unconscious bias and inclusion in leadership.
This Advisory Board marks a significant step forward for Women in Tech Sri Lanka. Backed by global mission, local leadership, and now a team of distinguished advisors, the chapter is poised to accelerate progress. The future of Sri Lanka’s tech ecosystem will be stronger, more inclusive, and more innovative because of leaders like these — ensuring that women are not just participants, but shapers of the tech revolution.
