Having been in senior management roles for over two decades in five industries, I have witnessed the evolution of employer branding. Traditional strategies that focused on creating a healthy and approachable working environment are no longer sufficient to meet the needs and demands of the workforce of the current day. Today, employer branding transcends the physical workspace and extends into the realm of the virtual world mainly with emphasis on social media, reflecting a shift in how companies interact with their employees.
The Evolution of Employer Branding: Employer branding has evolved from merely providing a pleasant work environment to encompassing a holistic approach that includes the digital footprint of the organization. In Sri Lanka, this evolution is evident in the way employees are perceived based on their sector—whether they work in the government or private sector. Private sector employees, in particular, are often distinguished by their appearance, personality, and communication skills, which in turn reflect positively on their employers.
