In a major step forward for SME digital transformation, OODOX, founded by Sri Lankan tech entrepreneur Ranga Dayawansha, has officially launched Sri Lanka’s first WhatsApp-based HR Assistant platform. The launch is further strengthened by OODOX’s recent acquisition by Simplebooks, a leading Sri Lanka–based business services and technology platform founded by Aabith Sabeer and Bhanuka Harischandra.

Unlike traditional HR software focused purely on automation, OODOX is designed to bring HR expertise and compliance intelligence to SMEs that often operate without dedicated HR managers or internal compliance teams. Through a WhatsApp-first experience, businesses can access structured HR operations, payroll processing, workforce management, and regulatory guidance without the complexity or cost of building a full HR department.

The platform combines AI-driven operational assistance with context-aware workforce management, helping SMEs bridge critical gaps in HR execution, labour compliance, and employee administration, all through a familiar communication channel already used daily by businesses across Sri Lanka.

Turning WhatsApp into a Full-Scale HR Department

OODOX is built to solve a fundamental challenge faced by SMEs: the absence of dedicated HR teams. By leveraging WhatsApp, one of the most widely used communication platforms in Sri Lanka OODOX delivers a powerful, easy-to-use HR assistant that requires no technical expertise or complex onboarding.

Through simple chat-based interactions, businesses can:

  • Track and manage employee attendance in real time
  • Handle leave requests and approvals seamlessly
  • Manage salary advances
  • Instantly respond to employee HR-related queries
  • Process payroll and manage EPF/ETF submissions

This approach removes friction from HR operations, enabling business owners to manage their workforce as easily as sending a message.

Compliance, Simplified and Strengthened

Navigating labor laws and statutory requirements remains one of the most complex aspects of running a business in Sri Lanka. OODOX addresses this with an integrated compliance engine that ensures HR processes are aligned with regulatory standards.

With its acquisition by Simplebooks, this capability is significantly enhanced. Businesses now benefit from a compliance-backed ecosystem that combines automated HR workflows with deep expertise in legal, financial, and regulatory frameworks, reducing risk while improving operational accuracy.

Powered by Simplebooks: Beyond Software

Simplebooks is a Sri Lanka–based business services and technology platform that supports entrepreneurs and SMEs across their entire lifecycle, from company registration to financial management and compliance. Its offerings include online bookkeeping, payroll services, financial advisory, and legal support, making it a trusted partner for thousands of growing businesses.

Currently led by CEO Aabith Sabeer, Simplebooks has built a strong reputation for simplifying complex business processes. The acquisition of OODOX represents a natural extension of its mission, integrating HR automation into its broader ecosystem and enabling businesses to manage both people and finances in a unified, intelligent way.

Visionary Leadership Behind OODOX

OODOX was founded by Ranga Dayawansha, a Sri Lankan entrepreneur and technology innovator recognized internationally for his achievements in robotics and advanced technology competitions. His work reflects a strong focus on building practical, impact-driven technology solutions for real-world challenges.

He is also the founder of FloodSupport.org, which became the digital backbone of emergency disaster response during Cyclone Ditwa in 2025, playing a critical role in coordinating relief efforts and real-time information flow during a national crisis.

With OODOX, Ranga brings that same vision of scalable, impact-driven technology to the SME sector, empowering businesses to operate smarter, faster, and with greater confidence.

Redefining the Future of Work for SMEs

The launch of OODOX, combined with its integration into the Simplebooks ecosystem, signals a new era for workforce management in Sri Lanka. By embedding intelligent HR automation into a familiar platform like WhatsApp, OODOX removes traditional barriers to adopting structured HR systems.

For SMEs, this means less time spent on administrative tasks and compliance concerns, and more focus on growth, people, and innovation.

About OODOX

OODOX is an intelligent HR automation platform that enables SMEs to manage payroll, attendance, employee communication, and compliance directly through WhatsApp.

About Simplebooks
