As GRI steps into a new financial year, the company marks a significant milestone in its leadership journey with the appointment of its Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Tharindu Atapattu, and Chief Financial Officer, Chathuranga Abeyratne, to the Board of Directors of GRI Sri Lanka.

This strategic move underscores GRI’s commitment to strengthening governance while bringing leadership closer to the center of decision-making – creating stronger alignment between vision, strategy, and execution, and enabling greater agility as the organization continues to grow.

Dr. Tharindu Atapattu, who assumed office as CEO in February 2025, brings over two decades of distinguished leadership experience across multinational corporations, Fortune 500 brands, and leading regional enterprises. Known for his ability to drive transformation and deliver value, he combines strategic insight with a strong execution mindset.

He holds a PhD in Marketing, an MBA in Finance, and a First-Class Honors Degree in Engineering, alongside globally recognized professional qualifications including CMA and CGBA. Throughout his career, he has led complex operations, driven profitability, and delivered impactful business transformations. Beyond the corporate sphere, Dr. Atapattu is also a respected academic and thought leader, contributing to research, teaching, and the development of innovative management frameworks.

Joining him on the Board is Mr. Chathuranga Abeyratne, whose financial leadership has been instrumental in strengthening GRI’s financial resilience and operational discipline. With over 15 years of experience across multinational and listed organizations, he brings a well-rounded perspective that blends strategic thinking with strong governance and financial expertise.

A Fellow member of ACCA-UK & CIMA -UK and an associate member of CA Sri Lanka, Chathuranga holds an MBA from Cardiff Metropolitan University (UK) and a BSc from the University of Colombo. He has built a strong track record in senior financial leadership roles, consistently driving financial strategy, enhancing operational efficiency, and enabling sustainable business growth.

His ability to combine financial rigor with forward-looking insight continues to support GRI’s growth ambitions, enabling more informed, data-driven decisions across the organization.

The inclusion of both leaders on the Board is expected to further elevate governance, accelerate decision-making, and bring sharper operational insight into strategic discussions. It also strengthens accountability and ensures that GRI’s long-term vision remains closely connected to execution on the ground.

More importantly, these appointments reflect GRI’s ongoing evolution – building a leadership model that is integrated, forward-looking, and equipped to navigate an increasingly dynamic global landscape.

As GRI continues to expand its global footprint and pursue new opportunities, this strengthened leadership foundation will play a key role in shaping its next phase of growth and innovation.

We warmly congratulate Dr. Tharindu Atapattu and Mr. Chathuranga Abeyratne on their appointments and wish them every success as they take on this important responsibility and continue to shape the future of GRI.
