Berendina Micro Investments Company Limited (BMIC) and Berendina Development Services (Guarantee) Limited (BDS) have both secured Bronze Awards at the CA Sri Lanka TAGS Awards 2025, adding to a growing list of recognitions for the organization’s institutional rigor and operational excellence.
The awards, presented under separate categories, reflect the strength of Berendina’s governance framework and measurable social impact. BMIC, the country’s first licensed microfinance company, was honored for excellence in financial reporting and regulatory compliance. BDS received recognition under the Not-for-Profit or Non-Governmental Organizations category for transparent reporting and sustainable community development initiatives that empower underserved communities.
BMIC currently serves over 100,000 low-income customers across 35 branches island-wide, managing a loan portfolio of LKR 6.8 billion against an asset base of LKR 7.2 billion. BDS operates across seven districts with assets exceeding LKR 2 billion and a 99% project implementation rate, supporting over 25,000 extreme poor families annually through livelihood development, water and sanitation, youth development, and education initiatives.
These awards validate what we have always believed: that accountability and transparency are not optional extras but core to our mission,
said Anura Atapattu, Chairman of Berendina.
When you work with communities and manage significant resources on their behalf, reporting excellence is not about winning awards. It is about demonstrating that every rupee is accounted for and every promise is kept.
The bronze awards at TAGS 2025, now in their 60th year and Sri Lanka’s benchmark for corporate reporting excellence, add to a growing list of recognitions and underscore a principle that has guided Berendina from the beginning. Transparency is not a choice. It is the contract between the institution and everyone it serves.
