A beachfront base on Sri Lanka’s south coast, run by a local team that makes every stay.
Mosvold Villa, the beachfront boutique hotel on Kabalana Beach in Ahangama, has been featured in the August 2026 Indian Ocean Collection of National Geographic Traveller (UK). The sponsored feature presents the property as a base for travellers who want to slow down, surf and get to know Sri Lanka’s south coast.
Ahangama has long drawn surfers and travellers to the south coast, and the villa sits right on the sand at Kabalana. Each of the 16 rooms and suites looks out over the Indian Ocean, and the Founder’s Suite has its own private infinity pool.

Dining focuses on Sri Lankan coastal cooking, built around seafood landed daily. It is food that belongs to the place, and the kitchen treats it that way.
Mosvold’s aim is a holiday rooted in Sri Lankan culture that refreshes guests in body, mind and spirit. The service is star class, and the feel is that of a private home. None of that would be possible without the people who deliver it, from the kitchen and front desk to the grounds and maintenance teams.
The villa is staffed by 43 people, part of a Mosvold Group team of around 185. The Group recruits from the communities around its properties and across the region, extending opportunities well beyond Ahangama. For many local families, that means work close to home. Its people are what keeps the Group’s hospitality personal, and that remains the focus as it grows.
Partnerships with vocational institutes in the Southern Province give young people a route into hospitality, and successful trainees are offered permanent roles. The programmes are built on practical experience, not classroom theory alone. The goal is simple: anyone who joins Mosvold should have room to grow.
Several team members have built lasting careers here. Some have risen from junior kitchen and maintenance roles to senior positions, and others have moved into management roles that now span the whole Group. Their stories show what a career at Mosvold can look like, and the Group hopes to see that kind of growth across all four of its properties.
“At Mosvold, we are committed to recognising and empowering talent. Our people are our most valuable asset, and our vision, ‘Significantly You’, comes to life through the team that welcomes every guest,” said Nilanka Martinus, Managing Director of Mosvold Hotels.
Mosvold Hotels opened its first property in Ahangama in 2012 and now operates four properties. Mosvold Villa is at 38 Welhengoda, Ahangama. Details are at mosvoldhotels.com.
